Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

This review is for Sunday brunch only. And what a brunch it is! Being the kind and generous guy I am, I agreed to meet some geographically-challenged friends (we are talking Rockland County, if you can imagine!) at this bucolic space so they wouldn't have to come down to the filthy, pustulant city. The venue is lovely, set in an unassuming neighborhood of well maintained suburban homes. You would almost never know there is a large restaurant/hall there! Brunch is buffet style and the spread is large but not overly expansive. Salads, meats and cheeses are top notch. I liked everything I had. Seafood is another plus...I like shrimp and there was a tower of it, chilled on ice, along with a variety of oysters. The meats were very nice. The lamb and the roast chicken were my favorites. That chicken was so moist and flavorful. Desserts are not on the buffet and my friends and I had one of each. Flourless chocolate cake was good, pecan pie was better, white chocolate parfait was tops in my book. Service was lovely throughout, although getting the check was a bit of an ordeal. No fewer than four employees successfully avoided eye contact with everyone at my table for over 15 minutes. There were numerous octogenarians there and you could tell the staff loved them and made them feel like family. There were a lot of hugs and kisses and I thought that was really sweet. At around $36 I thought it was a good deal. I had a bellini to drink and it was great. The venue has an extensive wine list, but I don't drink wine so what the hell do I care? But you may, which is why I mentioned it. I enjoyed myself and would definitely go back, next time I feel like spending an hour on Metro North going to the fringes of civilization.

Went back for tasting menu dinner. A year later it was very similar and not worth the price tag. I think I'm done.

Service lacking. Brunch overpriced with inattentive service then they have the nerve to add 20 percent to the bill automatically? Plus no valet and muddy parking lot. Food was good but I won't be going back.

Rating is somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. Some parts were great, others not so great. We were there for a wedding and stayed overnight. Kittle House's primary business seems to be celebrations. The night before the wedding, a party with pretty loud music ran until midnight. Since most of the rooms overlook the lawn, there was just no way anyone was going to get any sleep until the party was over. Room: narrow staircase, no elevator. Good thing we're youngish. Furnishings are quaint but pretty random/eclectic; they seem like garage sale finds and don't really match other things in the room. Towels are coarse and worn. Sloppy paint job on the windows, amazingly horrible grouting job around the sink/tub/toilet, lots of dings and dents in the framing, slightly dirty in the corners of the bathroom. The marble floor was so slick I almost wiped out twice walking on it in my socks. One elderly person in our party had a downstairs room where the bathroom floor was 2" higher than the bedroom floor and I was concerned about them tripping. The wedding itself was very competently done. There were plenty of staff and they did a great job. The food was properly prepared and delicious. The cake (which I'm assuming they prepared) was beautiful, with a tender crumb.

I went last night for a charity event. I usually expect food to be not as good for an event like that. It was certainly cooked to perfection which was a lovely surprise. The reason I'm didn't leave 5 stars is because it's only Valet parking. I have a thing about someone else driving my car. I would have loved to have the option to park my own car. But the food and service was GREAT!

My future in-laws took me to a lovely birthday dinner at Crabtree's Kittle House on Sunday. I was really pleased with the menu, both for restaurant week and beyond, and ended up ordering off of the normal restaurant menu. I had the beet carpaccio and the rainbow trout, and the plum and lemon tart for dessert. The salad was beautiful, really well done. Thinly sliced beets of all varieties, pepitas, goat cheese. Simple and delicious. The trout was ok, but a little over-cooked. The main star of that dish was the garlicky kale and the lemony butter sauce. My real favorite was the wine - as picked out by the sommelier - a light red wine, and the dessert. The pairing of plum and lemon was a real hit - and they even stenciled on "Happy Birthday Alexandra" on the plate. Overall, an A+ dinner.

I was there for a private birthday party for 35 people. It was an awful experience from the word go! 1. Upstairs room difficult climb for elderly. And once you are upstairs, no rest room upstairs. 2. Pre printed menu was wrong --not what hostess ordered 3.party started at 6:30..first course did not arrive until 9:30......the manager was nowhere to be seen until 9:45. Main course arrived at 10 pm. We had all lost our appetite by then.. And then to top it off, the vegetables were missing from our plates..and then a bowl of broccoli arrived after we finished our meals. We enjoyed our party but the service of food was not to be believed. They overbooked .. Too many Parties. The food wasn't all that special..not worth waiting. 3 hours

My review kind of falls between two and three stars I suppose. We were there for Restaurant Week and I always wonder what this means in terms of service. We were also a table of five women and women often do not receive the same service that men or couples receive. This is a well known fact. Someone brought us the menu promptly but then disappeared. One of the hosts wandered over and asked us if everything was all right and we said....well.....we'd like to order. Bread had been served but no one had arrived to take our order and we had sat there for quite some time. I don't think any of us were terribly impressed by the food, I certainly wasn't blown away. There was nothing wrong with it; I just wasn't really impressed. But since it was restaurant week our choices were limited. I would like to suggest that they serve their sorbet in a small bowl that is meant for desserts rather than the same huge bowl they serve the soup and pasta in. Were they short of dessert bowls? Did they rinse out my pasta bowl and put the sorbet in it? I thought serving those very different dishes in those same huge bowls was kind if tacky. And with all the waitstaff wandering around there was no reason for us to have been kept waiting to order our food. They have several different people bringing the food so perhaps it's not clear to all these people who is supposed to be taking the order. I also feel that the practice that some restaurants have during restaurant of making people order their dessert at the same time they order the meal is tacky. And then after we had already eaten our dessert and had the dishes removed, someone asked us if we wanted to see a dessert menu. I got a general impression of disorganization among the staff. I won't go there again.

After having a poor experience there on Thanksgiving Mr. Crabtree graciously invited me and my family back for another meal. This time it was an EXTREMELY better experience. Food was great! Nice ambiance and overall a very pleasant experience. I am happy I went back (on a non holiday) as this changed my opinion of the establishment. I would go back for sure and recommend it to anyone.

Played a wedding here awhile back and the atmosphere is unparalleled! I Got the steak and loved it! Very juicy and tender. It was a sunny day when i went and the grounds surrounding the place were just beautiful and green!

The sunday buffet brunch is excellent. It is $34.50 pp and it includes mimosa or bloody mary and table served dessert of your choice. We came here to celebrate october bdays in our family in a large group. We were accommodated nicely. They even gave all of the bday people dessert plates with happy birthday written in chocolate and a candle while singing to us. All of the food was excellent especially the lobster bisque, chicken salad, prime rib and french toast. We also came here during restaurant week last march. We ventured off the restaurant week menu and ordered from the daily brunch list that that goes til 2. Try the duck duck duck or the asparagus and egg dish. Absolutely delicious! If u have never been here remember to dress very nice. The place is historic and beautiful. Oh, visit the tap room. I had the smoothest vodka martini of my life here.

There have been numerous Kittle House visits over the years. Experiences have varied from excellent to disappointing with quite a few "in between". Yesterday we decided to celebrate our 29th Anniversary by visiting this "Grand Old Lady" and she did not disappoint. Reservations were made with Open Table mentioning our reason. Upon arrival we were seated in the small dining room - left of entrance - my wife calls it the "Clinton Room". Our table was perfect - situated quietly against the wall, The warmth of the radiator was welcomed on this cold chilly evening. Putting aside Restaurant Week we ordered from the standard menu. Our appetizers included the tagliatelle bolognese pasta. Tasty sauce with no surprises - the dish was predictably good. Also ordered - Tuna Sushi Pizzetta with crispy sushi rice cake and japanese aioli. A nice freshly flavorful selection Our main courses featured Cod with wild mushrooms and roasted cauliflower which was enjoyed, The Farm Guinea Hen in a strong tasty cabernet sauvignon sauce was also a fine choice for this chilly evening. Service was polite, courteous and professional all evening. The one oddity - our waitress asking for our dessert selections while we were still reviewing the menu. For dessert we enjoyed three (3) cheese selections with our wine. Our dessert plates arrived with strawberries and "Happy 29th Anniversary" written neatly across in chocolate display. A very nice added touch - we left satisfied... and smiling...

I have been coming here for years and have (almost) always had a pleasurable experience. Mother's Day, however, was absolutely absolutely awful and completely unacceptable. My family had a 3:00 PM reservation, which we arrived on time for. After we got there, we were poorly greeted by the unfriendly and moronic hostesses. When we made the reservation weeks in advance (which was for 5 people) we specifically asked to be seated near the window in the main room upstairs. Upon our arrival, we immediately confirmed with one of the unfriendly hostesses that we would be seated near the window and she said that we would be. We stood there for 30 minutes waiting to be seated, while other people who walked in after us were seated before us-- one party was seated at the table that the hostess told us would be ours. She disappeared and when she returned, we asked her why another party was seated at our table. She rudely said "uh, sorry I stepped away and couldn't control it." Alright... After that, we were seated at the absolute worst table in the restaurant-- right next to the kitchen. We had a beautiful view of the busboy station and the inside of the kitchen while waiters and waitresses were running past us. We expressed our unhappiness and everyone we spoke to was extremely rude and did not care at all. They apologized and said that there was nothing they could do, but we all overheard them whispering about how annoying we were and saying terrible things about us. The last time I checked, we were the customers who were about to spend over $500 dollars on a meal. So unprofessional and rude. They did absolutely nothing to make our experience more enjoyable. No one came up to us during our meal to ask how we were doing or anything. Absolutely awful service and the manager as well as the hostesses should be ashamed of themselves. The one and only good thing I can say is that the food was delicious-- but other than that, our experience was absolutely awful. We will of course never go back and will make sure to tell others of our absolutely terrible experience.

Went here for a Christening this past Saturday and I have to say, this place is gorgeous and exactly what I would expect from an "Inn" in Westchester! The service was great (bloody mary's were pretty bad; the mix was watery and lacked any flavor) Unfortunately it rained all day so we couldn't really enjoy the outside too much but I would imagine it is very quaint and peaceful. A pleasant escape from the city. A little hard to find (veer to the left and go down the driveway just FYI). Having never been here, I was not expecting it to be in a residential neighborhood where it blends in with the other houses. The cottage is from the 1700's and has a lot of character. Would love to come here for brunch. Oh and the salmon with the green herb crust was one of the best I have ever had! The salmon was cooked perfectly! Well done!

My daughters took me to Crabtree for my birthday. The food was o.k , overpriced. As we left my daughter discovered that her nothface gloves were missing. Of course they could not find them. Have been trying to get in touch with manager He does not return calls. For a fancy restaurant theft by staff should not be tolerated. And patron should be compensated. WILL NOT RETURN!

Well, I have been a fan of this place for years. Mother's day brunch was, however, a huge disappointment. We were seated in the downstairs dining area. Not a great area to begin with because it's dark yet very hot and muggy. Ants crawling on the walls.. but that's another problem. The buffet is set up upstairs and downstairs; when you are seated downstairs you walk outside to a tent. Bees were everywhere and the staff were sweaty and not friendly. Although they have a large array of choices, the food by 1pm was soggy and lukewarm. The bacon was greasy and floppy. The fruit was picked through and not cold or fresh. The worst part,? the service was deplorable. I had to ask for everything from salt and pepper to bus service. When they saw us putting dirty plates on another table, someone came over and said, "I have to set that table". I said, "okay, well, can someone please bus our table?" and he walked away. Finally a server who knows me from past visits came over and took care of the table. I had to complain to get good service. NOT OK We live locally and have enjoyed this place for decades... very surprised that Kittle House would employ people that didn't take great care of their customers on such a special day.
(2)Debbie D.
The food was plain and simple and elegant, delicious, but the portions was too small. I was not happy with them changing out my wine toward the end of my night and saying they didn't. Maybe cause they changed my bartender... I can taste the difference between an Alexander Valley bottle and whatever house cabernet was flowing...
(3)Dale Y.
Great restaurant with an extensive wine list. If you ask, your waiter will bring you to see the wine cellar which is the largest in Westchester. Be careful if you order special martini's. My friend did and it cost $27, which I thought was outrageous. The service here is impeccable and fairly formal. It's a great place for a special occasion.
(5)Daniel C.
I haven't written reviews in some time, but I think that a warning to others is warranted. We were expecting a great meal, yet all six of us left extremely disappointed with the food. Badly seasoned and improperly cooked. Every dish. Such a pity. That said, the wine list is quite extensive and impressive.

Didn't think it was possible but the food was even better than the last time I was here! Came here again with a friend for lunch during Hudson Valley restaurant week and I'm glad I did. The English pea and early asparagus risotto I ordered as an appetizer was incredible. For the entree I ordered the Montauk Point Hook and Line Caught Skate Wing which came with string beans. It was light and flavorful. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce my girlfriend ordered was to die for! Wish I could have bottled the sauce. As delicious as the sauce was, it didn't take away from the flavor of the steak. I had the goat cheese cake with ginger snap crust. It came with small chunks of ginger and a honey sauce. Delicious!! My girlfriend had the Valrhona Chocolate-Banana Panna Cotta crème anglaise which was very tasty and light. The service was was attentive and we weren't rushed through any part of our meal. We were able to sit back and relax enjoying every course. Although this Inn and restaurant is old the interior is clean and fresh. The dining room was warm and inviting. Although the views are nice, I would love to come back in late spring to see the trees and flowers in full bloom. I would also like to be able to dine outside when the weather gets nicer and their patio is open. Can't wait to come back again and again!!

More like a 3.5. They do everything very well, I just wasn't blown away by anything. It's a great place for a relaxed meal and cocktails by the fire.

This review pertains to hosting an event here. We hosted a wedding shower at Crabtree's Kittle House this past weekend and I was extremely impressed with everything from the preparation to the execution of this weekend. We worked with Kimberly as the event planner and she was so responsive, creative and easy to work with. She went above and beyond helping us to create the vision for the shower by bringing in colored linens, tea light candle holders and creating a beautiful table with different levels for our candy bar. She was also very helpful in creating the delicious menu that everyone raved about. It was absolutely perfect and everyone just had the best things to say about the day, the venue, the food and most of all, the service. The service and professionalism that every person we interacted with exemplified sets this inn apart from many other restaurants, venues and inns. I can't wait to come back!
(5)Audrey H.
So sad to see how this restaurant has turned out. Everyone was so nice, but we waited over 45 minutes for bread alone. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to BEG to refresh our glasses. Food was very good, but not worth three hours at the table. We actually had to complain to the manager at one point - service increased a little, but not enough to warrant a revisit. Sad.
(1)Matt T.
Disappointing experience. The food and service were both sub par. The one stand out is the wine list.
(2)Robert C.
Here for a business meeting so limited in scope. Been here many times in the past and this is a consistently terrific spot for dinner, especially at the Dutch Schultz bar. Lots of history, class and terrific food and ambience. World class wine list, and a functioning inn.

Time for another update to this restaurant, where I have dined on occasion for over a decade. I notice a theme in reading some of the recent reviews... the main complaint is that the restaurant is old and "musty." A decade ago, this was one of the top foodie spots in Westchester, but the buzz now goes to many newer establishments. In that time, Kittle House saw a revolving door of chefs, with the quality constantly changing. On my last couple of visits, the food was mostly very good.... And the other night, we sat down with friends for what I consider to have been an exceptional meal. The decor of the restaurant can be seem as "dated" or "timeless" depending on your perspective. The restaurant is set on a beautiful property, and white linen service never goes out of style. Then you look on the walls and really wonder about some of the crooked artwork hanging on the wall. We were offered the regular menu and the wine list. This is the largest wine list I have ever seen in Westchester. If you are a wine lover, it is a joy to page through this Encyclopedia-sized book, and marvel at wines that are over 100 years old, wines that are over $10,000. Fantasize about the type of people ordering those wines, or fantasize about ordering them myself! Our wine order was taken promptly, settled on a 2000 Bordeaux for $100. From there, our experience with the service was mixed. Not bad per se. Our food order was not taken immediately..... and we were eventually told they were having difficulty locating our wine. I suppose with a wine list *that big*.. it is possible that something can't be located. The sommelier suggested a similarly priced comparable wine. Clearly, he was knowledgeable. Once the replacement wine was brought, our orders were taken. Courses were served in good progression. Water and wine glasses were promptly re-filled. Which brings us to the food. Honestly, on food alone, I'd give 5 stars. As we waited for our food, the bread service included a sourdough or a cranberry bread. I had the sourdough which was fresh and wonderfully crusty. The amuse bouche was a tiny glass of a carrot soup with a foam. While not terribly original, it was tasty. My appetizer was the House Smoked Sustainable Norwegian Salmon yukon gold blini, meyer lemon crème fraïche. This was beautifully presented, wonderfully balanced, and delicious. The smoked salmon was a nice size portion, the accompaniments provided the right texture and acid. Also at the table, we had the White Bean and Roasted Garlic Velouté crispy kale, pancetta foam. I had a small taste of this soup and it was wonderfully satisfying. Never had a soup quite like it. Though, with a flavor relying heavily on garlic, not sure if I could have finished a whole bowl myself. My main course was the Roast Berkshire Pork Chop okinawa potato purée, glazed cipollini onions, young carrots, blood orange reduction. The pork chop was perfectly seasoned and prepared. The glazed onion really added to the dish. If I have a minor complaint, the sauce was a bit overly sweet without really tasting like "orange." Not super sweet, but I would have liked to get a bit more acid with a bit less sweetness. This is a very minor issue. I also tasted the skate and sirloin, both of which were excellent. The sirloin was as good as I've had anywhere. I was munching on the french fries that came with it. I've seen other reviewers complain that they seemed like frozen fries. While not the best most original french fries I've ever had, they tasted fresh and crispy. I could have devoured them easily. For dessert, we simply shared a trio of gelato. A hazelnut gelato was especially good. One more minor ding at the service. When we were having the issue with the wine, we were told, "Have you ever seen the size of our wine cellar?" So, as we got the check, we asked if we could get a tour of the wine cellar. After checking, we were told by that someone would come by in a few minutes to take us on a tour. After paying the check and waiting for 10 minutes, we decided to give up and just leave. I'm sure if we waited a few minutes more or asked again, we would have gotten the tour, but we did feel a little ignored. In sum, on the quality and taste of the food we had, 5 stars. This is not the most modern menu in town, but the dishes do represent modern variations on traditional French/American fare. I need to deduct ever so slightly for some questionable choices of decor and minor service issues. If half stars could be awarded on Yelp, I'd easily give 4 1/2 stars. And I will be returning.

Had dinner there tonight. Great food, excellent service, knowledgeable staff, incredible wine list. Not cheap, but well worth it.

This review is for the restaurant: I had been wanting to come here for a long time, given the place's reputation and all of the great reviews. But my husband and I felt it was overrated. When we first walked in, I felt like the decor was missing something. It wasn't charming, it wasn't modern, it wasn't anything. The chairs were worn and there was ajar door by our table that was letting in the cold air because it couldn't be closed completely due to its worn state. We were a party of 6 for a very early dinner on a Sunday. The restaurant was only half full but they still got all of our orders mixed up. The lobster bisque was flavorful, but the lobster meat itself was very sour; we were worried the seafood had gone bad. The entrees were alright. My lamb was tender in some areas where there were too many layers of fat that the chefs had left, but dry in others. The salmon that my husband had was underwhelming. It was cooked alright but devoid of any flavor or character, as if they had popped it onto the grill, and then onto the plate without bothering to season. The black rice he had as a side was nice though. When my husband went to the bathroom, there was a bunch of waiters standing around in the hallway not doing much, so he asked a waitress where the bathroom was. She looked as if she had no clue and then gestured him to a general direction. Even if she was new there, surely she had gone to the bathroom at some point during her employment? When he asked the hostesses at the front, they also looked surprised that he was asking them something. Given the high cost of the food here, plus the lackluster service and ambience, we probably won't be returning.

I can honestly say that the Kittle House is my favorite restaurant. lunch last time include an appetizer of crabmeat with pasta and spices that was delicious. the service has always been extraordinary. will go back as often as possible.
(5)Jack L.
Just ate lunch here for restaurant week. The service was excellent. My pork shank was good, the chicken bland, and the fish, fishy. The pasta appetizer was good but better with grated Parmesan . A good Malbec $40 was recommended,. Desserts were ok. Overall, not bad, but I was hoping for something better.

I came to Crabtree's Kittle House Inn for Sunday brunch and it was delicious! For about $50 with tip included, you get a breakfast buffet including unlimited mimosas and bloody mary's. There is a great food spread including waffles, cheese, meats, pasta, fresh fruit, quiche, etc. Really, you name it and they have it. In addition to the buffet food spread, you can order custom omelettes and dessert from your waiter. I had two plates from the buffet, an omelette, and the Chocolate Kittle Kat Bar for dessert. I think this place is worth the price for a classy brunch experience. You get great food and drinks, and that post-buffet nausea from overeating. Wooo!
(4)Nicholas G.
The Kittle House seems like a remarkable place, and at first sight, is very alluring. However, upon closer inspection, you can tell that the restaurant lacks leadership and organization. For instance, when we sat at our table, I noticed stains on the seat cushions, and uncleaned carpets. One could say the overall cleanliness of the Kittle House was lacking; old food on the wall, and cob webs in the corners. The flower water had stained the table, and the smell coming from it was quite putrid. Lastly, the silver ware that we were given did not match. This is fine dining gone wrong. On a positive note, the servers were very nice and really tried to do their best. The food was average at best, the foie gras was unexciting, and the fish was over cooked. Lastly, the wine from the "prestigious wine cellar" had quite a bite of sedimentation. The general manager who poured it, Glen Vogt, should know better than to serve this. He also served us a white wine glass, with red wine. I was also rather upset with the way in which Mr. Vogt treated his staff. He seemed condescending and quite frankly, mean to them. Next time, Mr. Vogt, watch how you speak to people, your actions are always being monitored.
(2)C. B.
A bit stodgy, but a great brunch and a pretty location.
(3)Stephen Z.
Enjoyed an excellent dinner at this restaurant! There is an extensive wine selection as well, with nearly any wine you can imagine. I had the foie gras as an appetizer and it was excellent. We also had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. My wife had the eggplant parm and I had the NY strip, both of which were excellent. The cook on the steak was perfectly medium rare - often I find that they are slightly overcooked. The ambiance was very pleasant and the service was excellent. The chef sent out some potato foam with bits of bacon prior to the meal - a nice touch. Dessert was excellent too! Creme Brulee was perfect. We will definitely be visiting again!

Disappointing. Have loved this restaurant for 20 years and looked forward to anniversary meal. The good. Service very professional and bread excellent. The bad. $37 pork chop looked first rate but tasteless. Wife's lamb just ok. At these prices and venue they need a better chef. Uninspired menu. Not going back. Too bad.
(2)Betty Ming L.
My first dinner pretty much lived up to the reputation of this venerable fine dining spot. Would definitely go back (esp if someone else is paying). Everything was tasty, service was attentive in the main dining room, which was filled with a gray-haired, money crowd. The reason I'm not giving five stars, though, is that some of what we ordered was a bit off. Looking back, the issue was that in certain dishes, we should have spent more time to ask about how they were made. For the ones where we had some discussion, our choices were spot on. For instance, we had really nice appetizers (root veggie soup, hamachi sashimi and a salad). Soup was amazing, the hamachi was fun. But the salad...it was absolutely gorgeous to look at, very sculptural. Fresh too. But for some reason, there were super-crunchy little things in it -- soy nuts, maybe? Anyways, those little things packed tons of savory flavor but the texture was too brittle and my friend finally gave up without finishing his pretty starter dish. Main courses were also very nice (roast chicken, salmon fillet and slow-cooked pork). Again, all beautifully presented with the freshest sustainable ingredients. But the pork was roasted in something sweet, maybe apple cider? It turned out too sweet and sour. As for the salmon, no one asked how we wanted it prepared; it came out on the raw side. My chicken was terrific, though and I didn't leave a speck of anything on my plate. Service was attentive. Bread was terrific. And the cocktails (Old Fashioned, Jamaican Firefly and the Cuban) were excellent, totally five stars. I would definitely go back but here's the thing -- just be sure to ask with some detail about ingredients and preparations.

We have been coming here off and on for 20 years. Have lately been enjoying the Tap Room. last week was my daughter's birthday and we decided to go. When I called to make the reservation I spoke with Barbara (I've never met her) who was a delight. I explained it was my daughter's birthday and that we'd enjoy the Tap Room. Barbara told me there was a charity event that night and because of impending rain it might be moved to the Tap Room and offered us the main dining room. I am glad she did. They had reserved a beautiful table with a nice window view. Service was great but the kicker was that they brought a birthday desert out for my daughter ( I didn't ask them to and I wasn't charged for it) and it was a hit. For personal reasons this was an extra special birthday and without knowing this, the little added touch by Barbara and the restaurant made it even more so.

Very cute B&B. Great service and very helpful staff. The Inn is very clean and looks exactly as represented on the photos. If you want tall windows on two side pouring light in, hardwood floors and a pretty room, this is the place to find it with a price that delivers great value (our room was 184/night!). The location of the hotel is also very convenient. We started the day by having a nice picnic at Storm King Museum ( stormking.org ). We then checked in at Kittle House Inn and had dinner at "Blue Hill at Stone Barns". Blue Hill is only 15 minutes away from the Inn ( bluehillfarm.com ) and is considered one of New York's best restaurants. If you are looking for something a bit more casual, we heard that the restaurant at Crabtree's Kittle house is one of the best in the area. Another great restaurant to consider is "The Inn at Pound Ridge".

Mostly hype. Not worth the drive or the price. Food was nothing special, not even well executed or original. But what really disappointed me was the service. They had a wedding party the same night of my reservation. I entered the main door to a room full of half drunk dresses and tuxedos. I could not even check my coat or check in with the hostesses. When we were sat, nobody brought water or menues for a good 10mins, or until we finally asked. Also, half way through the butter (in those little ramekins) we found chunks of bread from the previous service. Disgusting. Now, it's a little known secret that restaurants usually reuse table butter. They melt it down, cool it off, and reuse for the next day's service. But I have NEVER EVER found crusts of bread in the ramekins before. Do they just top each one off with more soft butter instead of boiling off and essentially sterilize the ramekins/butter??!?! WTF major fail for such a highly rated restaurant. major let dow. Will never go back again. They also seemed overwhelmed with such a large operation, running multiple dining rooms on 2 floors and simultaneously hosting weddings. Sadly, they will never see our business again.

We went here for Sunday brunch and everything was fantastic. From service to food quality, the food was absolutely terrific. Their pastries were sumptuous and their breakfast and carving tables were fantastic. My favorite was the bread pudding dessert. This place serves a fantastic brunch that is made to fit a king. We were a group of 15 and we all sat comfortably and really enjoyed the food, the ambience and service. Will keep coming back every chance I get!

This is specifically based on the Reservation experience I have had with Jeanina. My husband and I are traveling back east for a wedding, and are taking the Red Eye. We are staying at Crabtree's Kittle House Inn on Thursday - where the check in is at 3pm. I sent an email requesting an earlier check in time and within 24 hours, Jeanina called me personally, talked me through everything, and came up with an amazingly accommodating plan, which includes an early check in and breakfast before we settle into our room. We have not even gotten to the Inn yet and I am already in love with it. I cannot tell you what a relief this is for us and how I can already say that our stay is going to be wonderful with this level of service! Thank you Jeanina! - Laura M

Dated food, service, decor.

After a long day on the road, it was the perfect stopping place before continuing on our journey north. Great dinner in the Tap Room, totally comfortable room for the night, and a perfect continental breakfast served in the dining room in the morning (not impressed with the quality of the tea, though!). I would totally go back!

I've been to the Kittle House many times. We've eaten there for very formal occasions to brunch's. I've come to appreciate and enjoy just grabbing a seat in the tap room or sitting at the bar. The menu has been freshened over the past few years and there is a the wine list.....Still one of my favorites.

I'm in love! Came here for Restaurant Week and now I cannot wait to go back to try some other stuff!! This is what I love about Restaurant Week... the ability to try a restaurant you're hesitant about or that's too expensive to take a shot at. I came with a coworker for lunch. We both had the lobster bisque to start, she had short ribs while I had the trout for the main and then we finished with her getting a chocolate bread pudding and me the honey crisp apple tart. We were both dazzled by it all. Having first walked in and been slightly intimidated by the quietness of the restaurant, we quickly overcame that with our bubbling personalities, haha. We were seated at a two person table with a lovely view of the meadows and grounds behind the building. It was just a beautiful backdrop for our lunch! The lobster bisque was fresh, wonderfully flavored and poured at the table over a lobster salad that sat at the bottom of the bowl that was brought over. I couldn't get enough and would have had three more bowls if I could. I'm a huge fan of lobster bisque and it's easy to make overly oily. This was not! The short ribs that my coworker had were featured instead of the lamb that day and were a fantastic choice. So juicy and tender that she didn't even pick up her knife the entire meal and polished off every last bite. They were over potatoes I believe and vegetables but I can't remember exactly. My trout was quite delectable. It was light while being seared, had a lovely beurre blanc with it and the sweet potato and pancetta hash was a great taste addition to balance the trout. I, also, couldn't get enough of this. Dessert was served warm, as it should be with apple tarts and bread puddings. My coworker didn't feel that her chocolate in the bread pudding was overpowering but instead added a good amount of variety to the dish. And she loved the caramel sauce drizzled all over. My honey crisp apple tart was delicious and the vanilla gelato served with it was the perfect amount to cut the taste of the apples and give it some creaminess. The service was quite good and no one rushed you out. There was good timing between meals, allowing you to rest and be able to step away from the table if you needed to. I was a little confused as to who our actual waiter was. Perhaps we didn't have any one in particular and they all work as a team but that wasn't made clear. Not a reason to take off a star for me though. I would love to see what the rooms are like in the B&B part or come during the summer months to be able to sit on the terrace outside. The bar also exuded this old world ambiance. The entire place screamed of old world money actually. It was fun! I would love to come back!

Sunday brunch is amazing! My fiance and I are usually very critical of buffets, but we thought this brunch buffet offered variety and great tasting food. Only $34.50, this brunch buffet includes the food (pastries, fruits, waffles, french toast, eggs, quiche, raw seafood bar, charcuterie, carving station, pasta, cheeses, etc), beverages (bloody marys, mimosas, coffee, tea, orange juice), and dessert! Will definitely be brunching at Crabtree Kittle House again!

Firstly I don't know how and why people end up getting poor service or cold food (reading from some other reviews). Last night was my 5th time there and I realized that I never wrote a review. I will highlight my experiences from the first one: 1. Oooh! nice place, a restaurant in a mansion!! wow what a cozy fireplace. I like the service, the food tastes good. I'm bored since i'm off the drinks, the only one of the table. I have to come back 2. Many many months later - I quench my thirst with a nice cabernet...mmmm.. let's eat! Great food, great service, great atmosphere (these two times were with the wives) 3. 4 guys on a boys night - this was the mother of all boys nights at a restaurant as far as we were concerned. We ordered more than half the menu - 2 or 3 dishes each and shared. There was a guy playing his guitar to the patrons but the boring people on the other side didn't seem to care. I love live music so I asked him to turn the speakers around and play to us. Us guys really appreciated it and this just added to the experience. The food was stunning!!! 3 bottles of wine later we were the only ones in the restaurant still having a great time! This one was for the books. 4. 2 couples and our friend from out of town (he was on the previous one too) - a solid good meal - NOTE: these are all in the TAP ROOM 5. Boys night!! - this one was a repeat of number 3. So it was 2 dishes each, and some really good Cafaro (wine) which I haven't seen in ages, so I had to get it. All day I was craving some good Foie Gras so I had to order it. It's a bit pricey but so worth it!! I was blown away, so was my friend who tried it. Truffle Mac and Cheese, heaven. Wagyu hot dog, Lobster fra diavolo, surprisingly good. 72 hours braised short ribs, mmm mmm mm. La Frieda burger, YUM. Rock shrimp with aioli, OMG! As my friend SU says, it was OFF THE CHARTS! All you people who are reading this (who actually reached this far), just go. But go with people you can be totally relaxed with and sit in the TAP ROOM. All business dinners should be seated elsewhere. BTW, this place has one of the largest wine cellars in the country. Glen has an amazing knowledge of the list, and John Crabtree is most hospitable and a very highly regarded person in Westchester. I love this place and I will keep going back again and again. And now... The Good: - Location - Ambience - Food - Wine list - Service - Valet The Bad: - A hike for people from the city - Best not to drive back, get a car service (we do) - You will surely gain a few pounds The Ugly: - Nothing ps. Go there!

Good, friendly wait staff, and a nice place for an event, but bland, country club food, poorly presented and not very sophisticated, given the locale.

I've been a patron and fan of Kittle House since I moved to this area in 1973. The food is awesome and healthful and the ambiance is outstanding. Their wine list is one of the most extensive in the country. It is not inexpensive, but well worth the price. Another nice feature is that one may have a nice conversation; it is neither overly noisy nor do they rush you through dinner. It is also a place to stay overnight if you are in the mood for something different from a regular hotel. My wife and I were married here in 1991. The food, staff, and setting were perfect for that purpose as well.

My wife and I had a terrible experience on 11/9. It was my birthday celebration dinner. When we walked in, there were two young ladies at the reception, who were less than welcoming (perhaps busy). They seated us in a corner right next to the "bus station" and an entrance that led to another service room. Initially, there was a wedding party in the next room and it was very noisy, which subsided. Then, there was cold air coming in from the outside. We asked the reception to reseat us (twice), but they pointed to another badly located table, even though we could see several open tables. In the meantime, I HAD to ask for a wine list, even though this place prides itself on its wines. The wine list was a "lite" version with a note directing the patrons to a 5,000 list. While I do not need a list of 5,000 wines for a dinner, it would have been nice to get a larger wine list - so we figured we should talk to the sommelier. The sommelier seemed rushed and cut short our conversation. She came back with two tasting portions but then disappeared for a long time. Meanwhile, our waiter ignored us while the bus station continued to be a bother with the wait staff occasionally bumping into me. I again requested the two ladies to see if something had opened up (I could still see open tables) - and they were not pleased to see me again. After waiting for 30-40 minutes with no sign of the wait staff wanting to start the process of ordering wine or the sommelier returning, we just gave up. I left a $10 bill on the table for the waiter for his assistance in pouring some water. We ran into the sommelier on our way out and she apologized but took no action. The two ladies were least interested as we left the restaurant and the manager or the maître d' who I saw walking around did not bother either. Perhaps this was a fluke and the restaurant was extra busy. I am sure there are better days and amazing food, but it was not meant for us. From there, we headed to Lusardi's in Larchmont. Long haul from Chappaqua, but I did not want to take chances since I know that restaurant and it has never disappointed.

I forget what a special place this is. Great food, extraordinary service, wines that are great value, and just a warm and friendly greeting. Sometimes I travel far and wide for an exceptional dining experience. No more. I've got one in my back yard. Great Job John and your entire staff.

This was my frst time going to this place. I'd heard great things about the setting and food and thanks to a Holiday party i finally had the opportunity to experience everything first-hand. The service and food were beyond superb. I had the rigatoni, house salad, rainbow trout with a creamy corn sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection. The trout had the right amount of crispy skin. The dessert was a trio of cakes - chocolate mousse, cheesecake and some type of nutty cake. Each one was so good. I definitely would go back but i have a funny feeling that I'd have to budget the cost, but it would be worth it.

I was very nervous to try this restaurant, because it is often the case that Westchester restaurants have inflated praise on Yelp. I am happy to say that this was not the case. Crabtree is the real deal. From the moment we arrived, we were treated in accordance with the restaurant's reputation. Decor is a little dated, and it's a crying shame to have acoustic tile in the dining room, but apart from that, I found the setting to be charming and the service to be great. As for the food, it was a touch hit and miss, but mostly hits. And the misses were never bad. Just "eh." Here's the break down. The Gnudi was terrific. The seared foie gras, while good, was nothing above and beyond. But it's foie gras, so it's hard to be anything less than great. The scallops were phenomenal! The best of the three apps. The venison was a tad under-sauced, and thus bland without. But when you got a bite with sauce, it was quite good. The swordfish, however, was excellent. wonderful combination of flavors. Unfortunately, the trout was the weakest of the night. Very flavorless compared to everything else. And for dessert the chocolate gift and the crack pie were both very good, although both came with the wrong accoutrements- the coconut ice cream overpowers the crack pie- but goes beautifully with the chocolate gift. And conversely, the whipped cream of the gift was much better suited on the crack pie. So all in, a great meal. And we will most definitely return. Thank you Crabtree for living up to the hype.

Amazing meal and impeccable service. Recently renovated and beautiful. My fiancee and I went to eat here while scoping it out as a potential wedding venue. He ordered a 3-course prix-fixe meal but I stuck with just an entree. The appetizer was a delicious mix of watermelon, tomatoes, and goat cheese. Yummy. For entrees, I ordered delicious fluke with plums, peaches, and hazelnuts, while he had the most amazing coq au vin I have ever had. Dessert was cheesecake and a fantastic cappuccino. Because we said we were checking out the place for a wedding, they gave us a dessert sampling in addition to our dessert. We had a small plate of 4 different desserts - a perfect end to the night. If you are a wine buff, this is the place for you. They had a 3-inch binder of their wine list and apparently have an entire wine cellar that was converted from an old barn. We had a Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc because we were celebrating our engagement and happened to have visited Schramsberg Vineyards a few months ago in Napa. As far as weddings go, the event coordinator was extremely friendly and let us go downstairs to see the setup for a wedding that was taking place there that evening. The room itself was nice, although there are huge columns that may get in the way of seeing the bride and groom. Also, the dance floor is a strange L shape. Food = amazing, and local when possible, which is a huge plus for me.

Very disappointing for the price point. It has its moments, but I expect a lot more out of a place like this. An uninspired salad for my wife (my risotto was quite good). Her salmon entree was quite average as well (my short rib was fantastic). And my bread pudding was way too dry. Service was inattentive and uncoordinated. Server left us there for 5+ minutes before bringing water. On multiple occasions we had to ask multiple servers for something before we got it.

A group of friends and I have gotten together here annually for the past few years. We have always been impressed in the past, but we are going elsewhere in the future. Three of the group ordered skate. It was beautifuly prepared and a generous portion. I took a bite and it had an off flavor. I took another bite and decided to send it back. Just then another person who ordered it piped up, "This skate tastes like ammonia, I'm sending it back.." You would think that the Maitre'd would be falling al over himself apologizing, but no. We got halibut and I got swordfish as replacements. Both were small portions and indifferently prepared, very poor value for the money but at least fresh. Frankly, I do better with frozen swordfish from Trader Joe's on my stovetop.

Sunday brunch and I must say that although we wanted to really love it, we just couldn't shake the feeling of mustiness somehow. I guess the place has seen better days. Everything from the service to the food was somehow lacking. And I cannot tell you how much we really all wanted to enjoy ourselves. The maitre'd is charming, but even he cannot make up for the lack of ennui here.

Always disappointed in the service and the food portions. Food tastes O.K., but not special or worth coming here if you are hungry! Don't care for the tight seating, either. Interior is old and worn. Food at the Lexington Cafe is much tastier, but can be noisier there on week-ends, depending upon where you're seated!
(2)Andrew G.
Great food. Great service. Awesome place Only issue: had to ask for the wine menu and struggled with their extremely intense wine list. The food is so fresh and presented beautifully. Really attentive and the dishes are extremely satisfying. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best brunch places out there. Ever. Period. It is buffet style with a mimosa included and a dessert at the end. I have never been disappointed by the incredibly fresh selection of food they have and the high quality food that is offered. I would recommend this place to anyone that was passing through. Just make sure you get a reservation or you will have some trouble getting in. :)

We ate on a recent Monday night. The service was surprisingly awkward, capping the evening with them running to us as we put our coats on to tell us that they had given us the wrong bill and needed to re-do it before we left. Up until then, it was sort of charming. The food was great with one MAJOR exception. I had the burger, which was accompanied by the saddest luncheonette-style pre-cut frozen fries. It brought the whole meal down, offsetting otherwise great food. I sent them an email asking if this was an aberration or their standard. The absence of a reply from them leads me to believe that they find this acceptable.

Went here for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week a few weeks ago... and didn't want to leave a review in the heat of the moment! I had been skeptical about dining out during Restaurant Week in the past, due to some bad experiences in NYC and the Hudson Valley, but I had heard wonderful things about CKH and my best friend and I decided to give it a shot! The waitress greeted us pleasantly and asked us if we would like to start with a drink, word-for-word, "...a glass of wine or champagne?" We were slightly celebrating something, so we said, "Two glasses of champagne, please!" Shortly thereafter, the bubbly arrived, we cheers-ed, sipped, and placed our order. The appetizers were promptly delivered, and they were delicious! When we ran out of champagne, I asked our waitress for the wines by the glass list. She replied, "What would you like? Red? White?" But I really wanted to look at the list. After her attempt to remember the wines by the glass, she finally brought it to me. This is when I noticed that the glass of champagne we had been offered was $20 a glass. (What!) Of course, I complained - who offers a $20 glass of wine without making sure the customer is okay with paying that price??? ESPECIALLY during restaurant week when the whole reason I am at your restaurant is because I can dine there on a budget???? She took one glass off the bill. Fine. Then our entrees took about 40 minutes to come out (no eggageration). At no point did our waitress come over to ease our concern. A simple, "Your entrees will be out in just a moment, I apologize for the wait," would have been great. But no, nothing. And when they did arrive, my friend's dish was cold. But did our waitress come to check on us? Of course not. So she just ate her cold food. The overall decor, food, and hostess staff were all great, but even the best meal can't save bad service. I'd really like to go back there but I'm hesitant now... Restaurant Week is supposed to be the time to impress new customers and make them fall in love... this did not happen!! Hmph.

Kittle House hosted my rehearsal dinner at the end of May 2013, I was thrilled with how effortless and high quality the dinner was. Kimberly was very helpful with the proposal she presented to us which included many creative ideas for us to consider. Kimberly & Barbara ended up helping me with a personalized menu that had childhood photos which my guests and I enjoyed very much and wanted to take away as souvenirs. The food at Kittle House is top notch. I was extremely impressed with the trout that I had, and normally fish is a tricky dish to prepare for large groups. For our rehearsal dinner we were able to offer our guests the choice of 4 different entrees. I received many compliments on the quality of the food. The service was very helpful and unobtrusive, allowing us to focus and enjoy spending time with our family who had traveled from out of town. I felt my rehearsal dinner was a huge success and it was totally due to Kimberly & Barbara and the rest of the wonderful staff at Kittle House. I barely had to do a thing, they made it so easy and delicious. The space is beautiful as well and my guests were very happy to be there, they made many comments on how lovely the view was. If you are looking to host a refined group event in Westchester, I highly recommend Kittle House.

Overall 4.5. Went here last night for dinner and had a very good meal. 1. The food- First off, the bread here is really good (cranberry pecan). For appetizer I shared the Smoked Sustainable Norwegian Salmon and the Tuna Sushi Pizzetta both of which were amazing. For the main course I had the Ahi Tuna "Minute Steak" which was very good but had a little too much salt, in fact everything seemed to have too much salt for my tastes (and I like salt). We had a group of 7 and everything everyone ordered was very good. We were very pleased with the food. 2. Service- First off, the service is excellent and quick. The entire staff have smiles on their faces. This is also one of those places that fills your water glass up as soon as you drink 1 sip. 3. The decor/inn- The decor and view from the dining room were excellent however their restrooms need some work. Overall... Food- 4 + Service- 5 = 4.5

Old, over priced, disappointing food. The restaurant has a stale, moldy odor. The dining room seemed tired, dirty and warn down. The staff seemed somewhat distracted and perhaps moving in an odd slow motion. I'm sorry, but something is very wrong there. We thought to leave immediately upon being shown to our table. We ordered drinks and pondered finishing our drinks, paying and taking off. We regretted not doing so. It doesn't seem like there is any energy left at this once proud pillar of haute cuisine and dining. The old gal needs a face lift badly, from stem to stern and that is being very kind and generous I might add. I encourage you to visit and see for yourself, but tread slowly and cautiously and perhaps start at the bar.

Like the place, I have been there a few times now with a bunch of guys that love steak. The place is not my typical hang out since its a bit stuffy and formal for my taste. However, it is beautiful and classy and lives up to its expectations. The food assortment is very good and he variety is fairly extensive for veggies and non steak eaters. The bar and the wine recommendations are above Par. We keep going back there as it is the better of the traditional spots outside New York. Recommend going for sure

We were excited to try this place out since from the outside pictures it was our style of restaurant. However, the evening didn't go well. We had reservations made far in advance but we were seated in a corner across from where all the water and utensils were. The traffic from the waiters was distracting. This would have been fine except there were many better seats that remained open and unused all throughout our meal - we watched. The seats themselves are old and need to be replaced. When we both sat down we glanced at each other and grimaced as we sank into a seat whose padding had gone by the way side over the years. Our rears hit the metal at the back of the chair causing us to need to slide forward which wasn't good for our backs. We asked for our steak medium and got rare. The waiters would talk about restaurant business and gossip right in front of us - remember the water and utensil station was right across from us. Very unprofessional. We waited 25 minutes to get our bill after they had already cleared the table. We got the feeling we weren't good enough when we didn't order wine - at least that was the expression we got from our waiter. The decor inside was so, so. We won't be returning.

Classic French Country. Seared Foie was outstanding. It's nice to have someone not trying to be too pretentious- and just do things right. AND best part about this place is the cheesemonger who was so passionate and downright loving about her descriptions and creations of the cheeses! I thought I loved cheese. but she nearly brought a tear to my eye with her love of cheese! Now get some foie!

This was my husband's and my first bed and breakfast to visit. Overall, we had a nice time. We went for his 40th birthday. I emailed Crabtree's Kittle House to ask if they did anything special for birthdays. They said they would write "Happy Birthday" in chocolate sauce on his dessert plate, and with a candle in the dessert. Much to our surprise, they not only did that, but also even typed in "Happy 40th Birthday!!" with my husband's name on our menus. We were delightfully surprised. I thought that was a very nice touch in personalizing the night for us. Our meal was very good overall- I ordered the venison, and my husband, the steak that included horseradish in a bone as a holder. I've never tried venison before, and I don't think I am a fan- it was cooked medium-rare, but reminded me a little of liver. The vegetables that came with my dish were absolutely delicious, however! My husband enjoyed his steak, the creamed spinach and french fries that came with his meal. We also ordered the beet salad (yum!) and scallops for appetizers. The scallops were too fishy for my taste, but my husband thought they were good. After reading a couple reviews post-trip, I also think the french fries could be a bit nicer- they did remind me of frozen fries. The decor of the dining room seemed a bit old, but not terrible. It was still a nice night out together. The bar/fireplace room seems like it had more character, was cozier. Good for a lively crowd. Wine tour- we had a after-dinner wine tour which we went on just by asking if we could see it. Our tour guide really knew a great deal about the wines, their histories, and showed us special and rare bottles, even dating to 1900. It was freezing in the cellar, but it was a great educational and interesting experience. We had fun overall, despite the king-sized bed being a bit firm and with parts of the bed a bit sunken in from people sleeping in the same spot. The house is old, but I'm guessing it's part of the historic feel.

Normally when a restaurant serves great bread the food matches... KH is an exception. Not the food is bad... just boring... and for the price not worth it. As for the 'extensive' wine list.. the cellar is filled with 'dated' wines.. again not much exciting here... ...just like the restaurant.

Enjoy coming here around special occasions especially around the holidays. Overall food quality, service and attentiveness makes the dining experience extra memorable and wanting to return the next time around. Keep up the good work!

The 3 stars is just for the Inn itself. The restaurant is very close to 5 stars. First the Inn. It's old so you can't expect the lodging to be like a 4 Seasons. The room was clean, really comfortable bed and plenty of linens. That's the good part. The bathroom is cramped and if its warm, you have to rely on a window type air conditioner to keep the room cool. Problem is the one know was missing so you couldn't adjust the temperature. They do warn you that they have lots of weddings so the music from the garden might go on into the night. Yes, there was a wedding and a group of loud guys who were drunk and shouting at each other were right below the room. At check-in they said there was a complimentary breakfast, but after sitting and looking for someone for about 10 minutes I gave up and left. Not sure what happened to the breakfast part. The restaurant is wonderful and if I could find lodging close to the Kittle House, I would go there for dinner whenever I was in the area. The Gnudi was perfect, the selection of Salumi's was great, especially the duck salami. The trout was ok, not the best I've ever had. However, the Skate wing was THE best I've ever tasted. I mean this Skate was far and away the best I've ever tasted and was a large portion. The breads offered before dinner were fresh, and the lady kept coming around to see if more were needed. The lounge was packed, as was the bar. Good drinks, friendly service lots of fun. Seemed like a lot of people were ordering the Kittle House special cheeseburger and it did look great. When making the dinner reservation I asked about dress code and was told there wasn't any, but in the dining room the majority of guys had on jackets. In the bar area it was very casual. Too bad I couldn't do 2 reviews because the hate the list this restaurant as 3 stars when it was excellent. but the lodging isn't great.

I've heard about this restaurant for years and have always wanted to try it. Had dinner last Saturday for the first time and it was a great experience. We sat in the bar area for dinner (a little loud and a little tight), but the room did have a great energy to it (if you're there for a meeting or intimate dining rooms, make sure to sit in one of the outer rooms). The wine list is very strong (a tour of the wine cellar is available upon request and it is truly an experience) and has some older vintages that aren't cheap, but are rare enough to justify treating yourself. The food itself was good, not fantastic (hence the four star rating). To be fair, I did go with the steak, so it may not be the best item to base a menu rating on. That said, it was cooked to the correct temperature and was a decent size. The desserts were very good and the entire table enjoyed and finished (always a good sign). The service was good, though again, the area was tight, so my chair did get bumped quite a bit. Overall, I would highly recommend visiting the restaurant and I would definitely go back.

this reviews covers the lodging experience. in short, find somewhere else to stay. the kittle house has many charms but its old age offers no excuse for failing to maintain up to date standards. it pains me to write a negative review, where the best that can be said about this venue is that their customer service is well-meaning, yet this hardly compensates for a host of strikingly shoddy conditions. the walls are paper thin, so that i am presently listening to the neighbors above who are running around at six a.m. it's as if there is an equestrian parade ground directly over my head;. earlier at night, at three in the morning, i could plainly enjoy the pleasures of my neighbor in 1B snoring very robustly, with little to separate our rooms. later, i awoke to the familiar sounds of various iphone chimes, convinced it must have been my own, only to discover that it was coming from next door. thin walls indeed. mold and mildew stains decorate the bathroom, while scratch marks and caulk patches accent the curiously dilapidated walls in the main suite, where the windows are so poorly fitted that they won't quite stay open, framing a view to a tiny patch of manicured lawn that ends at the edge of a golf course. at least, the melodic songbirds perched in nearby trees and greenery have something of value to offer. as a final taunt, there's a lamp on our desk that is disconnected from electricity because there is no outlet within twenty feet, thus rendering it utterly useless, unless, of course, it can be repurposed as a paperweight. there is a talk of fine dining and world-class restaurant service. we saw no evidence of that during breakfast. again, my kindest words are reserved for the staff at the front desk: they made an earnest effort to prop up this cardboard mansion. i wouldn't care too much if this was a roadside motel, but crabtree's kittle house purports to be a reputable establishment, positioning itself as a new england cousin to an english manor. alas, the resemblance stops immediately after one pulls up into the driveway to see the house for the first time. impressive is the sight but it is entirely misleading, for to call it an inn would be too generous. it's a place to put your luggage and maybe, if you are lucky, to catch a few moments of sleep.

I stayed one night at the kittle house inn to visit Kykuit and go to Blue Hill at Stone Barns. The inn is adorable and the room we stayed in was spacious and beautiful. There was a wedding going on that night so it felt a bit like we were staying in a house with 25 of our relatives, running up and down the stairs and leaving cocktails everywhere. We didn't mind the noise because we had a late dinner, but if you are trying to get rest early just be warned that the walls are very thin and you can hear everything! The reason I give three stars is not because of the thin walls or the very very hard mattress, but because the service was kind of awkward. It seemed like the people at the desk didn't get why we were staying there...people didn't know where to get us water for our room...just little details where you just wanted to say "do you work here?" The waiters at brunch were odd too...it just made things feel disorganized. They also crammed the brunch buffet into a tiny little side room so there was constantly a line trailing out into the hallway and people running into each other. The quality of the food was good and the room was cute but I would probably stay somewhere else next time...somewhere where things feel organized!

Whether you have breakfast, lunch or dinner the food is always fresh and delicious. The service is awesome and the wine list is one of the best in the country. The atmosphere is elegant on a beautiful property. It never gets too noisy and there's a bar off of the main dining room where you can order a drink and something to eat in a more casual setting. Overall, we consider this an exceptional place to dine and connect with friends and family. We've never been disappointed!

After some time away from NY, I had forgotten the charm of its many colonial settings. Crabtree's Kittle House Inn is the best of both worlds. Undeniably historic, it is nonetheless comfortable and full of modern amenities - free and fast WiFi for example. The staff are pleasant, helpful, and clearly take pride in what they do. They genuinely seem to care about your stay, not just for good reviews, and you can tell. The views are breathtaking, the food delicious and well-priced, and the actual history of the property is fascinating. Only about an hour north of the city, it's a perfect getaway, a place where you will be made to feel welcome, yet still given plenty of privacy. I have rarely been treated better at a hotel/inn/motel, even in places twice as expensive. I hope to be back here soon!

This place is truly outstanding. It is primarily a restaurant, but it also has rooms for people to stay overnight. I had the Kittle House salad to start, and my wife had an heirloom tomato salad with cheese. My brother-in-law and I both had fish dishes as entrees. My wife had soft shell crabs. We all agreed that these dishes were extraordinary. My bother-in-law, who works in a wine store, was delighted with the huge selection of wines and spent quite a while studying the wine list before making a selection, a French pinot noir, which was very, very good. He chose this, in part, because he now lives in California, and does not get as many of the good European wines that we enjoy in the East. The desserts were also excellent. I had sorbet, which was very good. My brother-in-law had something called the "Chocolate Gift", which he enjoyed, and my wife had lavender ice cream with meringue, which she said was unique and delicious. The service was outstanding,

I was so looking forward to my stay at the Crabtree's Kittle House Inn, and it truly delivered on every level! When I pulled up I was wowed by the beauty and size of the Inn, the mansion is filled with history and charm. I was in the area for business and had a late check in, so I was relieved that the tavern was still open and it was packed. I had a delicious and perfectly cooked grilled salmon, roasted vegetables, and great red wine. The price was fair for the quality and the service was impeccable. While I didn't order dessert, the waiter said, "he couldn't let me leave without trying something sweet". He brought me bite sized portions of their three most famous desserts. The chocolate "twix" cake was divine. I was also impressed with my room, it was huge and the bed was so comfortable. The room price is very fair at around $140 per night. Breakfast is included in this rate, and you are able to order almost anything off their menu. I had granola with yogurt and fresh fruit. The Inn and tavern would be a great venue for a small wedding or private party.

One of the best wine selections in all the USA. They have tens of thousands of bottles in their cellar and over 6,000 different wines to choose from. Outstanding. Now wonder they are a Wine Spectator Grand Award recipient. Oh, and the food is great too!
(4)Ed T.
The room with the bar is beautifully decorated. The room next door with the drop ceiling looked a bit out of place. The drinks were delicious from the bar and the wine selection was good. Overall the food was good. The risotto was a bit to cheesy but everything else we tried was great. The entrees were great, steak and fish. The desserts, Crabtree Kit kat bar and gelato and even the chocolate covered strawberries were great. Would like to come back again if we could get a table nearer the bar. Great country feel in Westchester.

I have dined at the Kittle House more times than I can count through out my 26 years of living and eating. It is a great place for functions both of my brothers had bar mitzvah receptions there. We had a reception to honor my oldest brother's wedding there. We celebrated the same said brothers graduation from high school there (not in that order) plus the occasional birthday dinner or other special occasion. Either way it was the perfect setting for my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary, and the meal they served was one of the best meals I've probably ever eaten from start to finish. I started with the Red Beet Farroto, with duck prosciutto and hazelnut praline. I was entirely sure what Farrotto was but, but I love beets and figured if it was anything like a rissotto i'd be in good shape. It was and it was divine, I would have licked the plate if this was that kind of place. For my main course I made a special request to turn the pork belly from the tasting menu into a main dish. Boy was I impressed, the pork belly was served with a cider foam and was cooked to perfection. The most perfect piece of bacon-like meet that was crisp on the outside and dissolved in your mouth once you bit in. The cider foam provided a nice acidity to the dish. The only complaint would be that it didn't photograph well. I don't know how I found room for dessert but I ordered the chocolate gift which they dressed up for my parents anniversary with a candle and chocolate writing. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. There seem to be a couple of complaints on her regarding the service at the Kittle House but I would have to chalk it up to an off night. My family has been there several times through the years but I would not consider us regulars but we are greeted and treated with warmth every time we dine there. It feels almost as if we are extended family. I eagerly await my next meal there. :)

"Mediocrity Defined".... We had the worst dining experience here: Cold, boring food and poor service. When we asked for coffee refills we were ignored all three times. When we asked for mint jelly for our lamb we were told to use the beef gravy. We could hear everyone around us complaining as well. They won't be seeing our family there again.

One of the most disappointing dining experiences we have ever endured. We were promptly seated for our 8pm reservation. We were finished with our main course by 8:50. Our drink orders were wrong, food orders served out of sequence after our server inquired to how we would like our appetizer and salad courses served. Waiter was indifferent and I had to ask twice about the dish I ordered, he only nodded a response. Our food was bland and there was no salt or pepper offered. Our dessert cheese on the plate was embarrassingly tiny. Mens room was dirty, paper towels and toilet paper on the floor, waste basket overflowing. For the amount of staff and break neck pace they were working you would think they were expecting a bus to unload for the next seating. Room remained empty. Since we had a baby sitter we did order an after dinner drink to try and enjoy our evening.....our check was presented and of course we were charged for drinks not ordered, they corrected after two attempts. Based on other recent reviews management should reassess how they train and touch a few more tables. Not sure what the hype is about

1st class chefs and 1st class elegant food. It's a major player with the largest wine list in the US. For a wine(ooooh!) you can score around fifty 1st class wines for $50 or less if you really know wine and value. They have over 9,000 selections, not bottles. Whatever you want, they can do, if you ask and know who to speak with. I have always been able to negotiate fruit and condition with the somellier prior to ordering older bottles. I love Kittle house for lunch. Go for lunch m-f.
(5)Roger C.
Wine list off the charts, over 60,000 bottles in the wine cellar. The food was good, a little under seasoned, my steak was fantastic. One of the waitresses sung with the piano player, beautiful voice, highlight of the night. Inn rooms were very spacious, continental breakfast was confusing, why can't I take a cup of coffee back to the room? Overall great night...

Wonderful ambiance and GREAT wine list, however the food was very uneven. My companions had wonderful dishes, but my chicken was somewhat dry and not even worth the prix-fixe price I paid for it. I would be willing to give it another chance and will certainly update this review once I do. The owner is affiliated with Xavier's in Rockland County, which is known for having some of the best food in the country.

I came here for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week a little over a month ago with a few coworkers. I had the risotto with butternut squash as an appetizer, steak with polenta for my entrée and the kittle kat bar for dessert. Everything was delicious and the portions were perfect. They have an extensive wine list for those of you who enjoy shoveling out a week's worth of pay or retirement fund for a bottle of wine but they also have a selection of wine that is more reasonably priced. The cocktails looked amazing and they gave us sugar cookies and chocolate covered strawberries with our bill. Since this restaurant is in the heart of Chappaqua, the regular menu items are quite expensive and the food is not exactly worth the price. The Crabtree's Kittle House definitely attracts an older crowd and the dining room is a bit outdated but I think they are trying to preserve the historical significance of the building. Would I come back here? Maybe...but only during restaurant week.

I ate here for restaurant week and was extremely impressed. My food was unique and tasty, particularly the dessert--I highly recommend the passion fruit sorbet! The atmosphere was elegant, the noise level quiet, and the staff attentive.

I've just had salad here, so I can't say much for the food itself. The service was horrible, but they did give us three different types of free desserts to make up for it. And it's such a pretty setting, it's hard to hate this place. I will definitely be going back soon.

I have a serious bone to pick with the Kittle House. And I wish I could give zero stars. My family and I came here for my little sister's celebratory graduation dinner. My parents and sister come here a lot, but I've never been here for dinner. It's been months since my family was able to sit down for a nice dinner, and we were so excited to get the time together. When we got there, they had us sitting a crappy table by a private party in the bar. My dad asked if we could move to a table by the window, but they told us that it was a 6 top and that we could have another table in the center of the restaurant. Fine. We sat down at the new table. And sat. And sat. AND SAT. We actually had to call the busboy over to ask him to get our server. Not bad enough? Three waiters were just standing there, audibly arguing over who was going to take our table. IN FRONT OF US. We should have known better and run out as fast as we possibly could. It was honestly CENTURIES before we got our order in. Everyone else in the restaurant had bread, drinks, apps, but we just sat there with our water, waiting for something to happen. I think it's a good time now to say that I understand the importance of sitting and enjoying a nice, long meal with loved ones. I do that all the time in Chicago. This was definitely the time and place to just sit and enjoy each other and the food. But we were completely ignored. Our apps came probably a half hour after we sat down. We were starving so we scarfed them down. I had the melon and goat cheese salad (along with my dad and sister), and my mom had the asparagus potato soup. The salad was good, the melon fresh and the goat cheese perfectly portioned and delicious. My mom was not thrilled with her soup. We sat there for another forty five minutes, being completely ignored. Our waiter (if I could remember what he looked like) never, ever, ever came by to check on us. He was too busy standing around like a waste of space, looking bored. The busboy was the only person who made us feel like we were visible, and he kept bringing bread and more water. Props to him for understanding what his job was. It was around this time that two things happened. First, they sat THREE people in the 6-top that we couldn't have, and second, my mother, who might actually be the most patient person on the planet (something I did not inherit from her), absolutely had had enough. She got up out of her seat and went to the hostess stand to complain. The manager and hostess were apparently shocked. Great. It was at this time that our waiter came over to "apologize"- which meant he blamed the kitchen for the bad service. UM really?!??! I wasn't aware that not paying any attention to your guests was a direct effect of the kitchen being backed up. I have a really, really terrifying death stare, and believe me, I gave it to the waiter. As far as the food went, my salmon was blah, and my mom's steak was salty (my dad and sister got the same dishes). NOT impressed here. When it came time to take our dessert order we were just done. They ended up bringing us a total of seven desserts to make up for it. SEVEN DESSERTS??!?!?! What is that going to do? Honestly, my sister's dinner had been ruined and a few more desserts wasn't going to change that. We made them wrap them up and then we were on our way to get the heck out of there. And don't worry...the manager didn't even make eye contact with us on the way out, let alone say anything. Kittle house, if you're going to charge the kind of money you charge for mediocre at best food, you better fire some of your terrible staff and get your act together.

I've had wonderful experiences at the Kittle House. I get that the decor is a little dated, but that didn't matter much to me. It is a splurge and when you really investigate the high end of the wine list, you can easily hit four digits on the bill for four. I've been there in that mode twice and I haven't had a better dinner experience in Westchester. I also have been in the private dining room with groups, at a wedding reception downstairs, overnight in the modest rooms, at the bar for a bite, and several times for weekend lunch. By far the weekend lunch is my favorite. The crowd is older, but the pace allows for a nice event to unfold. I also like to focus on food-wine pairing over a longer lunch (especially on a Saturday), when the portions can be smaller and the variety greater. The service is just terrific. I've always found that the staff is eager to satisfy interests, from table placement to making up a wine tasting on the spot. I've had several runs of great wines suggested with great accompanying dishes. I echo Kerry L. on the wine cellar tour...absolutely jaw dropping. This is a great restaurant when you are looking for a very special event. Engage the great staff (from bartender to valet) and you will be well served.

Hands down, a first-class establishment. I had dinner here once with a boyfriend back when we were poor college students, and I have to say that the food was terrific. The atmosphere was very "country inn," and the decor and seating reflect this as well. I went here during the month of December, and the place was decked out for Christmas. They do a great job with the decorating, and when the Christmas wreaths are up and the snow is all around this place is irresistible. It is very pricey though - we were treating ourselves that evening - and I doubt that's changed very much. Also, the service is pretentious and snooty, so be prepared. Our waiter was a complete snob, but even that would not keep me from spending another evening here. The food is that good and the atmosphere is that charming. I'd highly recommend visiting during the holiday season.
(5)Carly H.
My family goes here every year during the holidays for their amazingly delicious weekend brunch and it is AMAZING! The food seems to have gotten better and better every year and we always have a lovely time (they also offer one complimentary mimosa, champagne, or bloody mary at brunch). I have never been here at other times of the day, but that's okay with me since their brunches are so delicious :)

Had family dinner there looking forward to a fine dining experience based on reviews I had read. Very nice comfortable setting and pleasant service. However, food was very disappointing to all in our large group. Uninspiring selections on menu. My nephew's scallop appetizer was ridiculously small and I have had better ceasar salads at the local pizzeria. Ordered duck and it wasn't hot or prepared how I had asked. No one at table had anything great to say which was disappointing given price. Desserts weren't bad, my pecan pie was tasty. But again no one said WOW. Tour of impressive wine seller was interesting. Overall very disappointing given cost.

My husband and I went to Kittle House on Saturday night. It was very nice. I preferred the previous decor ( a little tired but pretty French country) to the more modern current decor but the ambiance is still great. We started with the roasted vegetable appetizer and the oysters. I loved the vegetables but wish the portion were a bit larger. my husband said the oysters were great. For entrees he had the halibut and I had the tuna. both were very good. I wish the entree menu had a few more choices as I had a hard time finding something that really peaked my appetite. For dessert I had the kittle kat bar which was delicious. When the waiter brought it out it did not have the scoop of gelato as promised on the menu and he noticed this as he set it down and immediately took it back to get the gelato. My husband really appreciated the fact that they had the fat free dessert of sorbetto. He enjoyed the triple scoops. Overall the portions were a little small but we left fully satisfied but not stuffed. The service was Ok. not overly solicitous, I had to ask for refills of water, they did not notice when my glass was empty. Overall a very nice experience.

I've been dining here regularly since 1990. It has one of the top wine cellars in the country, if not the world. It compares very favorably to Greycliff's of the Bahama's wine cellar. The major difference is that you don't have to spend multi-hundred dollars to get a decent bottle. As little as 40-50 is often enough, but sub-100 is more than adequate. There are many many Easter Eggs on the list. Ask for a tour of the cellar, it is breath taking. Their fare tends to mid--Hudson Valley with venison, duck, etc on the menu. The steak is always good, so's the creme brulee'. The food is pretty consistent. I love it, but the place needs a major renovation. Inside is looking a bit seedy now. However, the dining room by the wine cellar which seats 12-14 is incredible. The former manager Glen, who left around 10 years ago to start up a number of restaurants is back, and now is part owner. I expect great things from this restaurant in the coming years. Don't be surprised if you bump into Bill Clinton there either.

Loved the "old school inn" vibe when we arrived, it reminded me of my hometown in Connecticut. We were a little worried when we sat down and it took a while to get the sommelier to come over, yet felt a bit rushed by the waitress to order. We placed our order and before our bottle of wine came, our appetizers arrived. So we had to wait for our bottle of wine before we could eat. After that minor snafu, we had a wonderful meal and our experience turned out to be fabulous. The ManagerSommelier chose 2 great bottles for us and was really friendly and accommodating. We decided to split the scallop appetizer, which they served and split beautifully on 2 plates. They were cooked perfectly. I had a fish with chorizo, cockles, and beans that was one of the better fish dishes I've had. My husband had beef 2 ways that was also very good. The dessert was an absolute stand out. If you have a sweet tooth, you MUST NOT leave without trying the Kittle crack pie. I know why they call it crack... again, one f the better desserts I've ever had- macadamia nuts, coconut ice cream- to die. Highly recommend Kittle House.

Lets start by saying the wine list is GREAT! I eat here once or twice a year for special occasions, but the last few times I have been here it has been a let down. (Except the wine!) Look, the food is better than the average westchester restaurant. The place has history, and its good overall, but for that price and reputation, they really need to do a little more to improve the overall experience. The interior badly needs redecorating, not to make it look new, just to bring it up to the level they are trying to maintain. The paint looks old, and the walls need some help. The service is never consistent, sometimes great, sometimes pretty bad. But, all in all, it is a good restaurant with a good reputation. I plan on returning soon to test the waters - I hear they have made some improvements to the kitchen. I'll post again after that! UPDATE: I was back to meet a friend at the bar last week. Looks like some new paint since the last time I was there, and there was a new face in the wine dept who definitely knew his stuff. I ordered from the bar menu, and had some Gnocchi with tomato and olive oil drizzle. I still wasn't blown away, but it was a nice simple dish and there was nothing bad to point out. I don't know if I had missed the bar menu in the past, but going forward I think I'll be back for some wine and a quick plate from the bar menu. It was a simpler menu than the restaurant menu, more attractive and less fidgety (if that makes any sense to you...) And it was really nice to have some interesting wine by the glass. 1992 Edmunds St. John made me remember that California can in fact make good wine after all... :)

Yet another restaurant that acts as if serving Westerchester folks is akin to shooting fish in a barrel. I have eaten here three times. One time the food was good; the last time the food and service were the worst. It was Christmas eve dinner: everything was even slower than usual (that is saying a lot for this place) and the meal/food was simply awful. In fact, when the woman at the table next to us complained to the waiter that her mushroom soup was incredibly watery, he agreed! He said that the kitchen had to water it down because they hadn't made enough!
(1)Brett S.
The price and prestige did not reflect the food. I expected better. Menu is also very pedestrian for what sort of restaurant they claim to be and the wine list they offer. Better pairings with food for the wine, Bleh
(2)Ashley C.
The only reason this gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because I've had one "eh" experience there. The menu is usually amazing, and they have an insane wine list. I don't really care for the waiters staring at the table from across the room - it feels like you're being watched a little too much. The lunch items are great, too. Definitely try out the burger with mini milkshake to feel like a (sophisticated) kid again.

New chef is excellent, and wine list still the best.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks, similar to NYC Restaurant Weeks, allow regular joes and janes to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley region (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and more). These past 2 weeks, M-F, you could enjoy a 3 course lunch (for $16) or dinner (for $26). Kittle House in Chappaqua (no Bill and Hil tonight) was one of the participating restaurants, and a few weeks ago I snagged a 5:30 reservation for the last Friday of RW. I'd been many years ago for some family parties (perhaps back when prices weren't so prohibitive on a regular night) and was curious for a return visit. One of the problems with being a young professional living in Westchester is that when you go out to a nice special meal you are usually surrounded by people 20-30+ years your senior. And it's not that the Kittle House is stuffy, at all. In fact, it's quite serene and beautiful, tucked away on a quiet side street surrounded by trees. The interior is classy and romantic, and the wait staff is the opposite of pretentious. So C and I were easily the youngest in the restaurant by 20 years. But we were treated like royalty, with not a hint of condescension, which for me often makes or breaks a meal. Our early reservation didn't feel so early when the tables started filling. It seemed that everyone was participating in the RW offer, some people opting to upgrade with wine pairings or slightly pricier prix fixe menus. We ordered some local beer since neither of us particularly like wine (Pleasantville-- Captain Lawrence) and were also treated to complimentary Bellinis while perusing the menu. I ordered the wild mushroom soup, strip steak, and pear torte. C ordered the salad, salmon, and pastry wrapped Valrhona concoction. The soup was delicate and creamy, and the salad lush with mixed greens. A bread server came around with different kinds of fresh, warm bread, and our every need was tended to by numerous servers who appeared at exactly the right moment-- empty water glass, finished plate (but not so as to feel rushed), etc. The presentation of the entrees was artful, but not extravagant-- simple and relying on the freshness and quality of ingredients rather than fancying them up unnecessarily. My steak (perfectly medium and rather large) was served with a layered potato gratin of sorts, and white string beans. C's salmon was served on a bed of some sort of small black beans, with a dijon sauce. It was slightly crispy on top, and very tender inside. Again, we were not rushed at all as I slowly plowed through my steak, and our plates were removed at the appropriate time, and then we were given the appropriate time to finish our beers (kind of like we were being watched-- but not in an annoying or creepy way, just an attentive way), after which we received our desserts. Both were equally outstanding. My pear torte was topped with creme fraiche and edged in sauce that did not overly sweeten the pear, as I think is sometimes a problem in fruity desserts, but rather mellowed it. C's dessert was aesthetically gorgeous-- warm liquid Valrhona chocolate wrapped in light pastry and "tied up" like a little package. Our meal was leisurely and orchestrated beautifully. For $80 we enjoyed a meal that would have probably cost twice that normally. HVRW is a great chance for people to sample restaurants that many wouldn't normally go to, and next year I will be making multiple reservations, early, certainly paying a return visit to Kittle House.

Came here for brunch through a Village Vines reservation, wanted to take advantage of the 30% off but was told the day before that they can not honor it but we went ahead anyway. It is buffet breakfast and perhaps they keep on forgetting that they need to refill the station! The wait staff always waiting to be called instead of offering coffee, milk or juice and you could sense a certain attitude in some. And to top it all, they added 20% tip on service that was not provided. Certainly would not recommend.

If you are thinking about having your wedding at the Kittle House - do it - you will not be disappointed! My wife and I just had our wedding there in the middle of the biggest and most unexpected snow storm ever to hit the Hudson Valley during October. Disaster? It could have been, but thanks to the amazing efforts of all the Kittle House staff, and our incredible friends and family, it was completely perfect. There were trees down all over the roads and the shuttle bus from the Hotel got stuck at an impass. The owner of the Kittle House, Mr. Crabtree himself, went out into the blizzard in his four wheel drive vehicle and picked up our stranded guests to get them to the venue. Halfway through the reception we lost power, but the staff lit the whole place up by candlelight and it was absolutely beautiful. The food at the Kittle House is absolutely second to none. All the wedding food is made to order, and the quality is just as amazing as eating in their world-renowned restaurant. Their event coordinator is on top of every detail and is such a delight to work with, as is everyone on their staff. All in all, what might have turned out to be a wedding nightmare ended up being the most special wedding I could have possibly imagined.

The Sunday buffet brunch is great. I have been many times with my family. I enjoy the meat carving stations, rices & couscous, breakfast stuff (danishes, waffles, bacon, etc), and interesting desserts. It's good for private parties. I celebrated my grandmother's surprise 80th birthday here, it was excellent. Probably not good for kids unless they're mature & well-behaved.

I've eaten at this place several times for business luncheons. The prices are a bit high for the average person, but the food is delicious. The atmosphere is "homey" and the service was good.

Very nice ambience, with really good food. Apparently Hillary Clinton makes routine appearances. Bit pricey.
